On March 25, the Monumental Complex of the Belvedere of San Leucio hosted a symbolic day marked by memory and future vision, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Royal Colony.

The protagonists of the event were Their Royal Highnesses Prince Carlo of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and Princess Camilla of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, whose presence gave the celebration a high symbolic and institutional significance. The participation of the Royal Family reaffirmed the living bond between Bourbon history and the present-day relevance of San Leucio, expressing a continuity of vision that combines tradition, responsibility, and cultural commitment.

Throughout the day, institutions, scholars, and local representatives engaged in discussions on the prospects for revitalizing San Leucio, a unique model of social innovation founded in 1776 by Ferdinand IV of Bourbon. This historical experience, through the “Leucian Code,” introduced remarkably modern principles such as compulsory education, labor protection, and gender equality.

Particularly significant was Princess Camilla’s visit to the historic silk mills, the symbolic heart of the community. On this occasion, she emphasized the central role of women in the development of the Royal Colony, highlighting how their contribution remains a relevant reference even today:
“San Leucio represents an extraordinary chapter in our history, in which women played a fundamental role not only in production, but in building a community founded on equity and respect.”

The visit also carried a personal and symbolic meaning, recalling the Bourbon family’s connection to this place, now more than ever a concrete example of social and cultural vision. San Leucio thus confirms itself not only as a historical memory, but as a living model capable of inspiring the present and shaping the future.
